Get a healthy antioxidant start to the day with this nutritious and delicious Matcha and blueberry smoothie bowl topped with kiwi fruit slices.
Matcha is a fine green powder made from green tea leaves- which contains a special type of plant flavonol called Catechins (which contain antioxidants) – recent research has shown that one cup of matcha has 100 times the antioxidants compared to green tea (and green has about double the levels found in black tea). The powerful Catechins provided by Matcha reduces the production of free radicals and, as a result, helps to protect the DNA of our cells, including that of the egg and sperm cells (anti-ageing). Matcha also contains a good amount of the amino acid L-Theanine which has a calming effect on the body, helping to reduce stress and anxiety and aids sleep.
Blueberries are a rich source of many vital nutrients including folate, vitamin k, potassium and fibre. They are also a very good source of the powerful antioxidant vitamin C. This helps to support the immune system, regulate hormones and reduce oxidative stress caused by free radicals to help protect the DNA in sperm and egg cell. It may also help protect against ageing.
Kiwi Fruit contain one of the highest vitamin C content of any fruit. Kiwi fruit may be small but they are packed full of goodness!…. from vitamin C and E to folate, kiwifruit has it all — and then some! They also contain a good amount of fibre too.
