This is a great smoothie to start the day – a bit like a ‘Bakewell’ smoothie in fact! The cherries are packed with nutrients including antioxidants, vitamin C and fibre. The oats are a great slow release carbohydrate and so will keep you full for longer. They also contain large amounts of beta-glucan, which helps to reduce LDL and total cholesterol levels and the chia seeds are packed with an array of vital nutrients including vitamin C, E, B1, B2 and B3 as well as calcium, iron and potassium.
Ingredients (makes 1 portion)
1/2 glass of almond milk
1 small banana
4oz fresh or frozen cherries (stones removed)
2 tablespoons almond butter
2 tablespoons ground chia seeds
2 tablespoons oats (use gluten-free if needed)
Whizz together in blender/smoothie maker and pour over ice. Enjoy!
