There are many lovely fresh seasonal berries available at the moment, providing many nutritional benefits – so it’s a good time to enjoy! Here is a lovely simple yet nutritional smoothie recipe to set you up in the morning.
What’s inside?
Raspberries, strawberries and blueberries – these really are a fantastic source of antioxidants as well as vitamins, minerals and fibre. The key to these antioxidants is that they help to ‘zap’ free radicals that can lead to oxidative stress in cells, such as egg and sperm cells, preventing DNA damage -this has an anti-aging effect on cells. They also help with cognitive function, keeping the brain healthy and helping lower inflammation in the body.
Full fat live natural yoghurt – providing protein, calcium, some fat and are great for the gut bacteria too.
Nuts – providing an array of micronutrients which are great for fertility including selenium, zinc and some provide omega 3 too! They also provide some fat and protein to the mix- helping to balance the fruit sugar in this lovely smoothie. Flaxseed contains a variety of nutrients, including omega 3- so why not start your day in a balanced way.
To make 2 portions
30g each of raspberries, strawberries and blueberries fresh or frozen
20g of flaxseed
40g mixed nuts
450g of live natural yoghurt
Place all above ingredients into a blender together and blend until smooth. Pour over ice. Enjoy!
