A couple who waited 13 years to have a baby have spoken of their joy
Georgina Leslie and Stephen Shaw now have 13-month-old Aleena after a surrogate, from Barnsley, in Yorkshire, agreed to help them.
The couple had previously had fertility treatment and IVF after Georgina was told she could not get pregnant due to previous health issues.
Their journey has recently been completed after their parental orders were finalised in the courts – something the pair are delighted about.
Georgina told the Falkirk Herald: “The parental order was granted at the end of May, so it is all official now.
“My name is on her birth certificate. We didn’t have any worries that it wouldn’t be okay, but we just had to follow the process.
“Everything went smoothly and I knew our surrogate Billie wouldn’t appeal or contest it. Aleena is absolutely fantastic.
“She is so cheeky and she has us in hysterics all the time. She’s very just happy, giggly, and mischievous.”
The 45-year-old is a mother to two older children and said she did not appreciate the time as much as she should have. So much so, she has decided to give up work as she wants to spend as much time with Aleena as she can.
She said: “When I had David and Amanda I was young myself.
“Back then I did not really appreciate it as much, I think it was because I knew I could have children.
“It’s made me more appreciative of the little things.
“I love every minute of the day with Aleena.”
The couple should have married on July 17, 15 years after they first met, with their daughter being flower girl, but due to flooding in Beancross, they had to postpone.
They hope to reschedule soon.
