Blue spirulina is a type of Cyanobacteriawhich can live in fresh and salty water and obtains its energy through photosynthesis. It is nutrient dense- an excellent source of protein, b vits, both omega 3 and 6, copper and iron. It has been linked to many health benefits including regulating blood sugar levels (important for PCOS), improving muscle strength and endurance, contains antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties. It is linked to helping reduce bad cholesterol and helping to lower blood pressure and in the prevention of with anaemia….. to name a few!
Why not make yourself a blue spirulina smoothie bowl? Great for breakfast, as a snack or post workout too.
Blue Spirulina Smoothie Bowl
Place 2 frozen bananas into a blender/ smoothie maker with 200ml of milk of your choice,
4 tbsp live natural yoghurt
2tsp of blue spirulina powder – blend and then pour into a bowl and sprinkle fruit, nuts and seeds of your choice over the top! Enjoy! If you don’t like bananas substitute with avocados instead.
