Cardiff University’s School of Psychology wants anyone who has had IVF or ICSI without success as yet to take part in its latest research
The survey is hoping to gather valuable opinions on whether it is in a patient’s best interest to have counselling before having fertility treatment.
Researchers said in relation to the survey: “Research shows that a considerable percentage of patients end three cycles of IVF or ICSI without achieving a pregnancy.
“Both health professionals and patients find it hard to discuss the possibility of treatment being unsuccessful.
“Some patients and health professionals argue that it is beneficial to counsel patients in advance for this possibility, with the aim of helping them to develop coping strategies known to facilitate the emotional and social adjustment.
“However, others believe it is not beneficial.
“This study investigates patients’ preferences and needs to be counselled in advance about the possibility of treatment being unsuccessful.”
To be eligible to take part in the survey, you must be over the age of 18, be on a waiting list to have IVF, are in the process of a cycle or have had at least one unsuccessful cycle in the past six months, and read or write in either English or Portuguese.
