It is just six weeks until National Fertility Awareness Week(1-5 November 2021) and Fertility Network UK hopes that you will get involved to help break the taboo of fertility in the UK and beyond
This is the fertility community’s week and is the best opportunity to raise awareness of how fertility issues impact so many people and show everyone affected that they are not alone. There is strength in numbers. There are 3.5 million people in the UK facing fertility issues, that’s why.
The aim of National Fertility Awareness Week aims to change perceptions of fertility and infertility, signpost support across all stages of fertility journeys, and raise vital funds for Fertility Network UK to continue to help those facing fertility issues.
A Fertility Network UK spokeswoman said: “We have a packed programme of events with a different theme for the five days of the week. Look out for webinars, videos, blogs, and much more on all these topics from fertility experts, health professionals, patients, and others.
“Let’s raise our voices, change the conversation about fertility and ensure everyone who needs support receives it.
“If you’re tweeting or posting during the week, use the hashtags #YouAreNotAlone #NFAW and the relevant daily hashtags.”
The charity will look at a specific issue each day of the week of awareness. Here is what to expect from each day:
Monday, November 1 #FertilityFairness
Fertility Network UK wants to see fair access to NHS-funded fertility treatment for all eligible patients regardless of postcode, race, or sexuality. Look out for the charity’s survey on access to NHS-funded IVF, info on fertility treatment, and success rates for Black, Asian, and other ethnic minority fertility patients, and hear the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community.
Learn more and share your experiences at its #FertilityFairness webinar at 18.30, hosted by Dr Raj Mathur, chair of the British Fertility Society.
Tuesday, November 2 #DonorDay
On #DonorDay the charity will highlight the work of the national donor recruitment campaign in Scotland, raise awareness of the need for ethnic minority gamete and embryo donors, and encourage the public to consider gamete donation and fertility patients who have completed their IVF family to consider embryo donation.
Learn more and share your experiences at its #DonorDay webinar at 18.30, hosted by Nina Barnsley, director of the Donor Conception network.
Wednesday, November 3 #HIMFertility
#HIMFertility is all about male fertility. Men are half of the fertility equation, and their experiences, thoughts, and feelings matter equally. Look out for a Twitter takeover by the #HIMfertility crew and many other male voices throughout the day.
Find out more and share your circumstances at our #HimFertility webinar at 18.30, this will be a male-only fireside chat with members of #HIMFertility.
Thursday, November 4 #FertilityEd
Fertility education is the focus on Thursday. Fertility Network UK will highlight its education initiatives:
Your Future Fertility aims to inform young people about the factors, including lifestyle, that can affect fertility, and Fertility in the Workplace which encourages employers to provide a supportive work environment and helps employees to know their rights.
The results of a Fertility Network and Fertifa survey will be revealed, looking at the experience of fertility patients juggling treatment with work.
Find out more and share your circumstances at our #FertilityEd webinar at 18.30, hosted by Professor Joyce Harper, co-founder of the British Fertility Society’s Fertility Education Initiative.
Friday, November 5 #TalkFertility
Friday’s #TalkFertility is all about celebrating patient voices and highlighting coping strategies for both current fertility patients and people who are childless not by choice.
The charity will signpost where to find help, and sharing the results of a Fertility Network survey looking at the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on fertility patients and their treatment. Details of the survey are here.
