Ginger spice and all things nice. Ginger root has a range of health benefits, including easing menstrual pains, improving digestion, blood sugar levels, and harmful cholesterol levels. It is packed full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. Ginger has been proved to be a good sleep aid in recent studies (varies from person to person). Magnolol, the herb’s principal constituent, is a mild sedative that efficiently aids people in falling into a deep, restful slumber.
To make one mug you will need:
3 tablespoons cacao powder
300ml of milk of your choice
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 tbsp maple syrup (optional)
A sprinkling of ginger and cinnamon as garnish
How to make your Ginger Hot Chocolate
Warm the milk in a pan on the hob. Whisk in the cacao powder until fully incorporated – this works better when the milk is already warm. Whisk in the ginger. Add in the maple syrup (optional). Heat until just before it reaches a simmer. Sprinkle a little ginger and cinnamon over the top and enjoy!
Please note: Ginger may lower blood sugar and increase the effectiveness of insulin and other drugs used for treating diabetes. Diabetics taking blood-sugar-lowering medication should be cautious about ingesting large amounts of ginger…always check with your GP if unsure.
