The British Fertility Society(BFS) has announced it will hold its 2022 fertility conference online
The society had originally planned to host a physical conference in Liverpool but earlier this month (December 2021) it revealed in a statement that in light of reviewed government advice due to the omicron variant, it will go virtual.
A BFS spokeswoman said: “It is clear that there are new and serious implications for the health and wellbeing of the participants if the conference were to go ahead as a face-to-face meeting.
“With work from home guidance now in place, coupled with rapidly rising cases, the committee felt that the risk was too great to justify an in-person event and that it would be irresponsible to proceed.”
The society apologised to the hundreds of people who had already registered to attend but felt the decision was inevitable.
The spokeswoman said: “The committee will be working hard over the next few days to put the slightly-revised online programme together. Please bear with us while we work through all the logistical implications that need to be addressed.”
The committee wanted to thank the sponsors and exhibitors of the event for helping to plan this online portal event.
