Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas welcome their daughter into the world!

She might’ve been early – 12 weeks early to be precise – but Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are celebrating the arrival of their baby daughter
The couple, who got married in 2018, announced the birth of their daughter on social media last week. The baby girl was born via a surrogate at just 27 weeks at a hospital in Southern California and the plan is for her to stay there being looked after by specialist teams until she’s healthy enough to be transferred to an LA hospital before being able to go home with her parents.

Priyanka, 39 and Nick, 29, said, “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much (heart emoji)”.

Friends of the couple say that they’ve been wanting to start a family together for some time, but their busy schedules have meant the time hasn’t ever been right.

They were also keen to add that Priyanka’s age wasn’t causing issues, but they decided to use a carefully selected surrogate.

“Priyanka doesn’t have any fertility issues preventing her from having a baby, but she is 39 now so it’s not getting any easier. Their busy work schedules also mean that it’s difficult for them to physically be together to conceive when she is ovulating, so some time ago they went down the surrogacy route.”

“This is the woman’s fifth surrogacy. They met her and really liked her. The baby had been due in April but the surrogate ended up giving birth on Sunday, so she was very premature.”

“Priyanka had been trying to get her filming all done before the baby was due in April – but obviously this has completely thrown her plans. There were rumours and speculation that the marriage was in trouble and that they might divorce, but that’s total nonsense. Nick and Priyanka are very happy together.”

She has previously spoken of her desire to start a family with Nick, and that when she does, she plans to “slow down”

“[Kids] are a big part of our desire for the future. By God’s grace, when it happens, it happens.”

Priyanka, who stars in Baywatch says that she’s always been “about the next job” but that these days it’s more about “craving family life”.

“My priority has always been the next job. I’m a very, very ambitious person. But I think the woman in me is craving balance. I’m craving my family life. I’m craving being able to do things for the soul that I didn’t do because I was just ‘blinders on’ and working.”

To further the cause of reproductive justice, I have also been using my research for the benefit of LGBTQ+ families as well as people who help them have children, such as surrogates, donors and others. The charity Endometriosis South Coast was born out of a need for support on a grass roots level. We have online support groups and now the world is opening up again we are going to train support group leaders to provide in person groups.
