Are you experiencing bloating or constipation as a result of the hormones used in IVF cycles? While there isn’t much that can be done to lessen this because the medication must be continued into the pregnancy, there are a few things to keep in mind to help reduce bloating during the two-week wait, one of which is being mindful of what you eat. Did you know that consuming certain foods may help you to feel less bloated? Cucumber, Pineapple, and Ginger are good examples of these such foods which may prove to help reduce bloating.
Cucumber– low in calories, are great for hydration, reducing inflammation and are a good source of vitamin C, K magnesium and fibre. They contain an antioxidant called quercetin which helps reduce swelling.
Pineapple– a favourite fruit when it comes to fertility and a good source of vitamin c, manganese and iodine. Pineapples contain the anti-inflammatory enzyme Bromelain important for conditions such as Endometriosis. Bromelain has an anticoagulant effect – so great for blood flow too. Pineapple is also considered to be a natural diuretic, playing an important role in combating bloating and in digestive health.
Ginger– contains antibacterial properties along with powerful anti-inflammatory compounds and is considered as a natural diuretic.
How to make your shot:
Ingredients: (makes 4 shots)
• 8oz pineapple chunks
• 1 cucumber chopped
• 1 inch fresh ginger
• 300ml of water
Combine all ingredients together in a juicer – pour over ice. Enjoy!
