Olympic boxing legend and Strictly Come Dancing first same-sex contestant Nicola Adam and her partner Ella Baig have revealed they are expecting their first child
The 29-year-old revealed to her 181,000 followers that the couple was to become parents in the not too distant future.
She said: “We’re so excited to announce that our family is expanding.
“After what feels like a lifetime, we can finally say we’re going to be parents!
“We’re so excited to share this magical journey with you all, the ups, the downs everything in between.”
The couple has been trying for a baby for three years and is very excited about their new arrival.
Nicola had already frozen her eggs on advice earlier in her career, so the pair used her eggs, and Ella, 23, wanted to carry the baby.
Sadly, the couple has experienced two miscarriages in previous cycles and Nicola told British Vogue in an interview that it had devastated them.
She said: “I was really upset. Of course, we knew that there was a chance of it being successful, but it’s hard to see those two lines on a pregnancy test and feel elated before having that ripped from you just a few weeks later.
“I was also more upset for Ella as she was the one going through the process physically. You don’t really know what to say or do – you just have to be supportive.”
The couple met four years ago on a night out in Leeds and decided to be open about their journey to try and dispel the myths and stigma that surrounds lesbian and same-sex couples having children.
