Fans of Australian TV show The Bachelor already know Sarah Herron from Season 17 and from the sandy shores of Bachelor in Paradise Seasons 1 and 3. While she didn’t find love on the show, she met and became engaged to her fiancé Dylan Brown a few years ago.
Herron has always been candid with her fans, sharing her journey with mental health, limb differences, and more recently, her fertility journey, which has included egg freezing and a failed embryo transfer.
Late last year, Sarah and Dylan went through an unsuccessful embryo transfer, and she shared her heartache on social media
Now, Sarah is once again sharing a disappointing update about her most recent egg retrieval.
She posted on Instagram, “unfortunately, our latest egg retrieval didn’t produce viable embryos for us. Of course, we are so disappointed and confused, but we remain optimistic to try again. Of the 3 embryos we received from this egg retrieval, 2 tested positive for cystic fibrosis, and 1 came back aneuploid — meaning chromosomally abnormal.”
For their next cycle, she and Dylan will be trying an intra-ovarian platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection, a relatively recent development. Some studies show that it may help women with a poor ovarian response.
She writes, “make no mistake, @dylan.h.brown and I are disappointed beyond words. We are exhausted, BUT, we’re feeling resilient and will keep working towards this goal for as long as our resources and spirits can keep at it. Even though we’re doing everything possible, and we have the best doctor in the world (yeah, I said it @eggwhisperer), biology is still biology and there’s only so much we can control.”
Sarah has put on a brave face for the process, sharing that she and Dylan still feel hopeful
However, she also offers some sage advice for people who are unsure of what to say to people who are dealing with infertility and/or pregnancy loss.
“Even with the best of intentions, there are some things better left unsaid to someone struggling to conceive or has experienced pregnancy loss. I asked all of you to tell me the things people have tried telling you during your fertility journey that just didn’t help hearing, and these were the most common responses.”
