Former Glee actress Becca Tobin and her husband Zach Martin have welcomed their first child via surrogate
The couple announced the news on Becca’s Instagram page with a photo of Zach carrying the baby boy, named Rutherford ‘Ford’ Thomas Martin, from the hospital.
She said: “Welcome to the world, Ford. Rutherford “Ford” Thomas Martin is here and life is already so much sweeter. It took him five years to get here, but it’s been worth every minute. Thank you to our amazing surrogate for bringing him here safely surrounded by so much love.
Becca, 36, who played Kitty Wilde in the hit US television show, has been open about her fertility struggle but kept the pregnancy and surrogacy a secret from her fans.
She said in a Q&A on her Instagram stories: “We barely told our closest friends and families this time around. We had gone through so much disappointment over the years that I was very cautious about sharing the news.”
Becca, who married entrepreneur Zach in 2016, said last year she was scared to open up about her journey due to how personal and emotional the journey is. But appearing on her podcast, the Lady Gang, she began to giveaway snippets of information along the way.
She said: “What I found out was that so many women are dealing with fertility issues and our job at ‘LadyGang’ is to talk about things that make women feel less alone.
“So I felt like it was such a disservice to have this platform and not talk about something so real.
“It has been so many years. I think we’re going on three years of the journey and it’s never gotten easier. But there have been bright spots and the exciting things, and the sad things. It’s a roller coaster.”
