Looking for a healthy dessert or snack this jubilee holiday? You are going to just love this ‘nutritious and delicious’ fertility-friendly Fro-Yo Bark.
Natural live yogurt is great for the gut as it contains friendly probiotic bacteria (such as lactobacillus)- all health starts in the gut. It is also a good source of protein, and calcium and provides selenium too.
Strawberries are an all-around fertility-supporting fruit. They are an excellent source of vitamin C and manganese. They also contain good amounts of folate (vitamin B9) and potassium. Strawberries are very rich in antioxidants and plant compounds. Their seeds also contain some omega 3 -enjoy whilst they are sweet!
Raspberries are fantastic as they are a low GL (Glycaemic load) fruit- helping to stabilise blood sugar levels. They have been linked to protecting sperm from oxidative stress. They also contain magnesium, which is involved in the production of testosterone. Raspberries are a good source of folate too- important in helping to prevent neural tube defects in the developing foetus.
Blueberries are amazing! They are rich in Anthocyanins, a powerful antioxidant, are low in fat, packed with vitamin c, and are a good source of fibre.
Red, White, and Blue Fro-Yo Bark Ingredients
500g full fat live natural yogurt
½ medium lemon juice & zest
Berries & Coconut Topping
8 strawberries thinly sliced
15 raspberries
20 whole blueberries
1 tbsp coconut flakes (optional)
How to make
Line a tray or dish with baking paper with enough overhang that you can easily lift the yogurt out of the tray once frozen
Add the yogurt, the zest of a lemon, and juice to a bowl and stir well until combined.
Pour the yogurt into the lined tray, smoothing it out to cover the surface with a spoon.
Top with slices of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and coconut flakes or toppings of your choice
Place the tray into the freezer for at least 2 hours or until completely frozen (this works well being left to freeze overnight)
Once frozen, remove it from the freezer. Lift the yogurt out of the tray and break it into pieces. Place the pieces into freezer bags or a lidded container and keep frozen, ready to be eaten
