A woman from Great Yarmouth has realised her dream of becoming a mother after losing six stone
Sarah Burbage had suffered a series of miscarriages and was told she was too overweight to access IVF on th NHS.
The 38-year-old lost the weight in just over two years and managed to get her body mass down to below 30 – a requirement of being able to qualify for fertility treatment.
Sarah and her husband Stephen were successful on their first round of IVF at Bourn Hall, in Cambridgeshire.
The couple now has little baby Jack who is ten weeks old.
Sarah, who lost her weight after joining Slimming World, said she was petrified of being pregnant but found it a ‘fantastic experience’.
She told the Yarmouth Mercury: “I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
“It was a fantastic experience, really lovely.
“I had an amazing midwife and could not fault anyone at the James Paget.
“Being a mother is all I hoped for and more.
“It was ten years and a lot of heartbreak in the making. But where I am now you forget all of that and think it was all part of the process.”
