US actress and television presenter Adrienne Bailon has announced the birth of a son via surrogate

The 38-year-old took to Instagram to announce the news with a touching post of her and her husband Israel Houghton gazing adoringly at their newborn son who they have named Ever James.

The couple kept the surrogacy private and only told fans after the child was born. Adrienne can be seen in an image accompanying the post holding her son moments after his birth.

She told her 5.5 million followers: “Our baby boy is here and we are so in love! If you have followed our love story… you know that our journey to baby has been very challenging – But God is true to His word and His promises.

“We have quietly prayed while sitting on this most magnificent secret for the last 9 months. He is worth every tear, every disappointment, every delayed prayer, every IVF cycle, and every miscarriage.

“Everything. All we feel is joy and overwhelming love and gratitude. Grateful to God, to our angel surrogate, and to all of our friends and family who have stood with us for over 5 years on this journey. He’s here and we have never been happier to lose sleep!”

The couple married in 2016 in Paris after just six months of dating. Adrienne became stepmother to Israel’s four children from a previous relationship but talked openly about her longing of welcoming a child of her own with Israel.

Peter trained at Cambridge University under the supervision of the co-inventor of IVF and Nobel Laureate Professor Sir Bob Edwards FRS. Marcin Smietana - Reproductive Researcher

As a sociologist, I have been doing research with LGBTQ+ families in the UK, US and Europe for almost a decade and a half now. To further the cause of reproductive justice, I have also been using my research for the benefit of LGBTQ+ families as well as people who help them have children, such as surrogates, donors and others. I am a senior research associate in the Reproductive Sociology Research Group at the University of Cambridge, where I have been since 2016, following my postdoc research at UC Berkeley and PhD at the University of Barcelona.
