Endometriosis is a common womb condition that results in severe pain, cramps, irregular periods, internal scarring and potential problems with fertility
It’s caused by the migration of tissue that would normally line the womb to other areas of the pelvic cavity and beyond. This tissue behaves in the same way, bleeding with each cycle, but the blood cannot leave the body, and forms scar tissue and adhesions.
In the UK alone it affects 1 in 10 women, yet it can take on average, seven years to get a diagnosis.
So we welcome anyone in the public eye talking about the condition to raise awareness. Which is exactly what Corinne Fox has done. She’s the executive producer of a new film called Below the Belt that follows the lives of several women with endometriosis, something that she herself has experienced.
And her dad, Jamie Foxx, couldn’t be more proud
In 2018, Corinne underwent hospital treatment for the condition and has recently posted pictures of herself at that time on Instagram. Now 28 years old, she’s recently attended the premier of Below the Belt and she’s posted pictures of that event alongside her experience.
She wrote, “2018: Getting surgery for a disease that I had barely heard of. 2022: executive producing a documentary about endometriosis,” saying that creating the film has been a “full circle moment” for her.
Dad Jamie the reposted the pictures of his eldest daughter, saying, “So proud of my daughter @corinnefoxx please check out the documentary movie Below the Belt… you will be blown away by the courage the women possess in this film”.
Other executive producers on the film include Hillary Clinton, Rosario Dawson, and Mae Whitman. Director of the Below the Belt and Educational film Endo What?, Shannon Cohn, has told Forbes that they “hope the documentary shines a light on the widespread problems in the healthcare system”.
“We made these films to try to change the course of the disease for the 200 million people worldwide that it affects. To give people with endometriosis guidance and validation in the face of stigma, biases, and misinformation. The films are tools to bridge the gap between patient experience and physician knowledge and bring endometriosis into mainstream discussion.”
Corinne follows other stars who have been open about their own experiences with endometriosis, including Lena Dunham, Halsey, Julianne Hough, Amy Schumer and Padma Lakshmi.
