Egg freezing is becoming much more accessible now, allowing more and more women to preserve their fertility and give them more options on their future parenthood journey. But it’s still a daunting procedure, so it’s always empowering to hear other women’s stories of their own egg freezing experience
Many women in the public eye have chosen to speak out, and the latest is Bollywood actress and model, Natasha Suri. She’s spoken to the Manoranjan Metro, telling them it’s “a great fertility solution for the modern woman”. She follows many other women in Bollywood who have chosen to delay motherhood with an insurance policy of freezing their eggs.
The most common reason for women to choose this path is to pursue careers before taking time out to become a mother. But there are various other reasons including not finding the right partner to decide to have a family with and prior to potentially fertility altering treatments for illnesses such as cancer.
Natasha chose to have the procedure at the Lilavati Hospital IVF Centre in Mumbai, under the care of Dr Hrishikesh Pai and Dr Nandita Palshetkar.
Talking after the procedure, Dr Pai said, “Lilavati Hospital is the first to start egg freezing in India in 2007. Many celebrities, professionals and working women come and preserve their fertility as they are either not married, or have not found the right person of their choice.”
Dr Palshetkar added, “After they get married, one can thaw the frozen eggs, fertilise them with their husband’s sperm and the resultant embryos can be transplanted back into their womb to have a child”.
Former Miss World India, Natasha has decided to speak out in order to normalise the procedure to help other women who might be considering it.
“Egg Freezing is a procedure that will help many women have the best of both worlds. It’s not just for working women to opt for having kids later but also incredibly helpful for other health reasons. I would love for other women to gain an insight into the nuances of this procedure and become comfortable in approaching the prospect.”
She’s been busy filming her role in the upcoming movie, Tipppsy, which is touted as being a female version of the famous movie the Hangover featuring five girls on a hen party trip to Goa.
We wish her all the luck with both her upcoming film and her future parenthood journey!
