A new film made in the US by a fertility pharmacist explores the depths people will go to become a parent
Conception was filmed in Houston and used an all-local cast and the directorial debut of Tarun Verma.
He decided to make the film after witnessing many couples and their experiences of fertility.
He said: “Now more than ever, IVF is getting more prevalent, because fertility issues are getting more prevalent in our society, right, like, but you wouldn’t know unless you were married, or trying to have kids.
“As a filmmaker, this really touched me, because I have tried for years to help people get pregnant, getting them through this process.”
The film stars Simren Lalani and Kareen Ghuneim and was shot just before the pandemic, looking at what extremes a couple will go to to have a child.
Tarun said: “I’ve had patients who have spent over $100,000, doing IVF, you know, unsuccessfully, and they keep going and going and going and, you know, to the average person out there, we don’t know someone has $100,000 to go have a kid, you know what I mean?
“And it just drives home, how bad people want children like had to the extent that they’ll go to have it, like, you know, I’ve had patients who mortgaged their homes put out second reversals, they’ve sold cars.”
It will stream from October 11 on Amazon Prime and Apple TV.
