Russia has banned foreign nationals from using Russian surrogate mothers
The French news agency, Agent French-Passe is reporting the news as the country moves to create a void between East and West.
The lower parliament, known as the Duma or state assembly, heard a second and third reading of the bill to outlaw foreigners from using Russian surrogate mothers.
The speaker of the Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin said in a social media post: “This will prevent the trafficking of our children, protect babies where they fall into same-sex couples or become the victim of crimes, including organ sales.”
The bill still has to gain the approval of the upper house and be signed off by President Vladamir Putin before becoming law.
Paying for a surrogate mother is legal in Russia. It is believed that Russian nationals and Russians married to foreigners will continue to have access to surrogacy.
