A woman whose fiance was killed while attending an incident as a reporter has revealed she hopes to have his child via IVF
Dylan Lyons was covering a shooting when he was shot and killed in February 2023.
Shortly after his death, fiancee Casey Fate approached an Orlando-based urologist who was able to conduct sperm extraction.
Casey told Good Morning America she hoped to use Dylan’s sperm to undergo IVF and have his child at some point in the future.
She said: “I am very, very, very happy it ended up working out because this is the thing that is keeping me going at the moment.
“To know that I can continue his legacy, continue what we wanted.”
The couple met in 2020 while they were working at the same television station in Gainsville, Florida.
The Spectrum 13 reporter was at the scene of one of the first of three shootings. His colleague photojournalist Jesse Walden was shot and injured.
Casey said: “All we talked about was getting married and having kids. We had picked the names Alexa and Elliott as Dylan wanted to use the initials of his grandparents.”
She said she was planning to raise the child alone and she could not see herself being with anyone else after Dylan.
