Rosanna Davison, known for her openness about her fertility journey, marked this year’s Wave of Light with a heartfelt message about miscarriage and baby loss
The Wave of Light is an annual global event where candles are lit for at least one hour to honor pregnancies and babies “lost too soon.” Rosanna accompanied her tribute with a touching video featuring a burning candle and yellow roses.
The mother of three, who shares daughter Sophia and twin boys Oscar and Hugo with husband Wes Quirke, has been candid about her fertility challenges, including their journey through surrogacy. Sophia was born through gestational surrogacy almost five years ago, followed by the arrival of twins.
In an interview with RollerCoaster, Rosanna discussed her decision to share her and Wes’ experiences with surrogacy and fertility struggles. She reflected, “Wes and I went through a really difficult time trying to have our family, and we were incredibly lucky to welcome three babies in just one year.”
Rosanna expressed her desire to support others facing similar challenges by being open about her journey
She explained, “Everyone’s journey is different, but the emotions—loss, despair, sadness, and loneliness—are often similar.”
Recalling her first miscarriage in 2016, she noted how isolating the experience was, particularly because conversations about miscarriage, fertility, and infertility were much less common at the time. “I just wasn’t aware. It wasn’t on my radar that miscarriage could occur not just once, but multiple times,” she shared.
Rosanna found empowerment through sharing her story, realizing how many others were navigating similar struggles. She believes strongly in the importance of openness, stating, “The best way to support others is to share your experience so they don’t feel as alone.”
Highlighting the significance of communication, she spoke about the impact of talking with her husband Wes, both as individuals and as a couple. She emphasized that talk therapy, or seeking outside support, can be valuable for processing the emotional toll of fertility challenges.
“I’m a firm believer in opening up the conversation and reducing the stigma around fertility and miscarriage. The more we talk, the more we can support others,” Rosanna added.
On social media, Rosanna shared what the Wave of Light means to he
“All over the world, candles are being lit today at 7 p.m. to remember pregnancies and babies lost too soon. A wave of light, to brighten the darkest of days,” she wrote. She poignantly reassured those affected by miscarriage or baby loss that “you are not alone.”
Rosanna revealed that she and her husband experienced 15 miscarriages between 5 and 7 weeks, and one loss at 11 weeks, before welcoming their three children. In her post, she emphasized that pregnancy losses matter, no matter the circumstances—whether it was an early loss, happened years ago, or even if there was never a heartbeat.
Her post resonated deeply with many, prompting an outpouring of support in the comments
“Loss is loss, Rosanna, and you will never forget,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “A loss is a loss, and how you deal with it is very personal. Time does heal, but life is never quite the same.”
Rosanna Davison’s bravery in sharing her story continues to inspire others, shedding light on the importance of talking openly about miscarriage and fertility struggles, and offering support to those walking a similar path.
