Pavel Durov, the billionaire CEO of Telegram, is financing fertility treatments for women wishing to conceive with his sperm.
The Altra Vita IVF Clinic in Moscow has confirmed the initiative, stating it is available exclusively to Russian women
This program has been promoted by the clinic as a “very generous” contribution from Durov. The cost of the IVF treatment is typically around $5,000, but under this initiative, it will be offered free of charge.
Durov revealed in July that over the past 15 years, he has fathered more than 100 children in 12 countries through sperm donations. He has made it clear that his sperm is available for anonymous use by families seeking to have children.
In his communications, Durov highlighted declining fertility rates as an “increasingly serious issue worldwide” and expressed a desire to normalize the concept of sperm donation.
Durov concluded with a call to “defy convention—redefine the norm!”
Durov’s pro-natalist views align with those of other tech leaders, such as Elon Musk, who has warned that declining birth rates could lead to societal collapse.
Musk has reportedly fathered at least 12 children, while other figures like Sam Altman of OpenAI are investing in reproductive technologies to tackle the issue of fertility.
As the conversation around declining birth rates continues, this initiative stands out as a bold example of how some in the tech community are approaching this complex societal challenge, which affect approximately 1 in 6 couples.
Notably, around 40% of these fertility issues are attributed to male factors, another 40% to female factors, and the remaining 20% are either due to a combination of both or remain unexplained. Infertility is rising year on year with 1 in 6 experiencing infertility globally.
Durov’s proactive approach emphasizes a unique perspective on addressing these societal challenges, aligning with a broader trend among tech leaders who are advocating for increased family growth and awareness of fertility issues.
At IVFbabble, we are deeply committed to gently raising awareness around infertility, understanding its causes, and advocating for accessible fertility care for everyone. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to build a family. With infertility on the rise worldwide, education and open conversations are essential steps toward empowering people on this important journey.
