Meghan Trainor recently shared a harrowing experience from her early pregnancy with her second son, Barry, while appearing on Mythical Kitchen’s “Last Meals.”
During a conversation with food journalist Josh Scherer, the Grammy winner recounted a terrifying moment when she believed she had miscarried just before an interview with Ryan Seacrest in late 2022.
Trainor, who had been trying to conceive with her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, received a positive pregnancy test on the morning of the Seacrest interview. “That morning, I was like stoked, beaming with joy. I videotaped it,” she recalled. “I did interviews, and they’re like, ‘How are you?’ And I said, ‘I’m thriving.’ I was so happy.”
However, moments before going live, she noticed she was “gushing blood,” to the extent that she “ruined a chair.” Despite this alarming situation, she managed to maintain her composure during the interview. Immediately afterward, she informed her team, “I think I’m miscarrying right now.”
After excusing herself to go to the bathroom, Trainor feared the worst, thinking, “I had a baby this morning, and now they’re gone.” Despite the scare, continued pregnancy tests came back positive. A blood test and a follow-up with her doctor confirmed she was 10 weeks pregnant, meaning the baby was conceived shortly before her “Tonight Show” appearance.
“It was horrific, and then amazing,” Trainor remarked, reflecting on the experience.
Trainor and Sabara welcomed their second son, Barry, in July of last year. They also have a 3-year-old son, Riley. Looking back, Trainor sees Barry as a “little miracle,” saying, “Every time I look at him, I’m like, ‘How are you here?’”
Trainor is scheduled to kick off her Timeless Tour in Cincinnati, Ohio, this September.
Bleeding during early pregnancy
Bleeding during pregnancy, especially in the early stages, is relatively common and can occur for several reasons other than miscarriage. Here are some possible explanations:
Implantation Bleeding: This can occur when the fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the uterus, usually around the time a woman would expect her period.
Cervical Changes: During pregnancy, increased blood flow to the cervix can cause it to become more sensitive and prone to bleeding, especially after intercourse or a pelvic exam.
Subchorionic Hemorrhage: This involves bleeding caused by the accumulation of blood between the uterine wall and the outer fetal membrane. It’s one of the most common reasons for bleeding in early pregnancy.
Hormonal Changes: Fluctuations in hormone levels can sometimes cause light bleeding or spotting.
Infections: Vaginal or cervical infections can cause irritation and bleeding.
Molar Pregnancy: A rare condition where abnormal tissue grows inside the uterus instead of a normal embryo.
Ectopic Pregnancy: Though less common, bleeding can indicate an ectopic pregnancy, where the embryo implants outside the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube.
Normal Variations: Some women experience spotting or light bleeding during their pregnancy with no negative consequences.
While bleeding during pregnancy can be alarming, it’s important for individuals to seek medical advice to determine the cause and ensure both the mother’s and the baby’s health.
